Custodian

Role Attribute

The Custodian is a guardian, keeper, or steward aiming to protect quality and value by setting standards for the team.

Role Attributes:

Chief β€’ Captain β€’ Chair β€’ Enabler β€’ Scribe β€’ Envoy β€’ Agent β€’ Guide β€’ Producer β€’ Director β€’ Guru β€’ Creator β€’ Performer β€’ Maven β€’ Custodian β€’ Inspector β€’ (custom)

Purpose

The Custodian improves quality by providing guidelines for other team members.

The Custodian investigates work done to ensure cohesion and completeness.

Notes

The Custodian protects a value stream from deteriorating due to bad quality.

The Custodian is similar to the System Owner in the β€œSpotify Modelβ€œ and the System Architect/Engineer in SAFe.

The Custodian is not the same as an Inspector. The Custodian (such as engineers and architects) would monitor how part of a value stream is created. The Inspector (such as testers and quality managers) would monitor how the value is delivered.

Rules / Constraints

  • There can be multiple Custodians, possibly with different areas of expertise.
